KISS @ The Empire State Building
The Empire State Building often promotes music and entertainment happenings in NYC. So when it was time for the band KISS’s farewell concert in Madison Square Garden, they were invited on a whirlwind trip through the iconic skyscraper on a cold December day. We were enlisted to capture it all in a promotional video for media, integrating their music and the building’s light show along the way.
Crafting the Story
The end result was achieved using a mix of assets, some we shot, some supplied drone footage and some footage provided by the KISS team. With KISS there is always a story, and piecing together these disparate elements was the real challenge. It all came together in the edit.
Video Capture
The assignment was, on the surface, straightforward: Follow KISS during and after their ceremonial lighting of the Empire State Building (ESB) to commemorate their last shows.
What our team and the ESB team did not predict was how hugely famous KISS is, and the omnipresence of their ecstatic fans.
Normally things such as composition, exposure and camera movements are the main considerations. On this day, just getting through the crowds was the biggest concern of all.
